PSC Christmas Holiday Releases

Over the years, Pretty Serious Cosmetics have provided the polish world with a number of gorgeous Christmas/Holiday collections.

The last Holiday collection released was The Ghosts of Christmas Past Collection in 2016. There was no Holiday themed collection in 2017 (please let me know if this is wrong!).

This was a collection of 8 polishes with a range of finishes including two topper polishes.

Enchanting Evergreen - deep evergreen with shimmer
Fairy Lights - pale pearly grey with shimmer
Jack Frost - shimmery iridescent topper, glows ice blue on a dark base
Mojito - colour shifting topper that shows various green shades
Peace On Earth - pale mint green with pink shimmer
Tarnished Tinsel - gold glitter with flecks of red and silver bits
Velvet Bow - dark metallic red
Very Merry Berry - deep red crelly

The Ghosts of Christmas Past (2016) polish line-up

Before the previous trip to the past, The Ghosts of Christmas Future Collection arrived in 2015. There was also a visitor to this future from even back further in the past. Yeah, I'll let you try to read that all over again.

This collection was an 8 piece of futuristic metallic shimmery goodness, with Santa's Sunburn making a return from a previous collection, that we will get to if you continue to read on.

A Christmas Time Paradox - bright blue foil with silver shimmer
Eat, Drink and Assimilate - coppery orange metallic foil
Frosty The Snowborg - silver metallic foil
Hack the Halls - bright green metallic foil
Joy To The Overlords - purple foil finish with small sparks of blue in it
Santa’s Sunburn -  red metallic foil
The Night Before ... - black base with dense silver flecks
Yuletide Of The Machines - gold metallic foil

Ghosts of Christmas Future (2015) polish line-up

Going back to 2014 now, The Rooftop Soiree Collection makes its elegant entrance.

A collection of 6 glittery polishes true to the spirit of a glittery holiday.

Cocktail Bar - teal jelly with teal, blue and green glitters
Daphne After Dark - charcoal jelly with multicoloured glitters
Glitz and Glam - mix of gold and silver micro glitters, works best as a topper
Invitation Only - metallic grey has colour shifting particles and glitters
Moments Til Midnight - dark blue jelly with golden glitters
Red Carpet Treatment - red jelly with various glitters

Rooftop Soiree (2014) polish line-up

Our final stop is back in 2012 when The Christmas Without Snow Collection was released.

There were 6 polishes of glittery goodness.

Blue Gums on Boxing Day - green with blue shimmer
Hot Summer Nights - ink blue jelly with silver glitter
Party by the Pool - peacock jelly with green & blue bits
Santa's Sunburn - red foil with silver glitter
Seasonal Sunset - rusty jelly with glitters
Twinkling Lights - blue glitter & larger copper glitter, works best as a topper

Here's hoping that we will be able to experience more Christmas collections once again when PSC returns...

What Does the KB in KBShimmer Mean?

First, the internet tells me that the creator of KBShimmer is a tropical mermaid at heart, at least that's how I'm reading this... I COULD BE WRONG!

Quoted 2015, screenshot 2018

Scribble Me This (2014)

A more recent interview, done this year, which is 2018 for the record, by Lucky Break Consulting with Christy Rose of KBShimmer, tells me that they went through a re-branding this year! Revealed in March specifically.

Screenshot where I could just repost the image and type out the original text.

Chroma Chameleon (multichrome) shown in image... or Just A Phase (magnetic)???

As is usual with researching anything, I still have not reached my goal of figuring out what the KB in KBShimmer stands for, my original task. I have however, learnt a whole bunch of things about branding and business which is always useful. Unfortunately, I have yet to learn how to use better words than "bunch" and "things".

Onto another interview , this time with The Mercurial Magpie, back in 2015... and BAM! Score :D

Quoted 2015, defaced 2018

KB stands for KATY BUG

KATY BUG is Christy Rose's daughter's nick name :) how super sweet is that? So that means, Christy Rose's daughter is at least 10 years old... because the brand is 10 years old. I am full of useful information!

I did more research... because the internet gives me permission to do so! It took me back even further back in time... back to 2012 at beautylish.

And now I shall spend forever going through The Mercurial Magpie... like I need a new addiction but *mumbles blah mumbles*

Daphne's Birthday Polishes!

2019 - Who knows what the future will hold for PSC but wishing them all the best of luck!

2018 - Hmm...

2017 - 5th Anniversary - Daphne's Masquerade Party - clear base polish packed with small and even tinier holographic glitters
Daphne's Masquerade Party

I apologise for the terrible photoshop stitch job on the bottle above :(

Swatches (and much better images than what I come up with) and reviews of Daphne's Masquerade Party at More Nail Polish (18/06/2017).

2016 - Business as usual

2015 - 3rd Anniversary - The PSC brand is growing up!

Daphne's Disco Party - tinted neon pink base with a mix of matte hex glitters in pinks, yellow, red and iridescent glass flecks

2014 - Business as usual... or was it? (19/12/2014 lani-loves)

Honorary Mention - Daphne After Dark - this dark glittery polish was released as part of the Rooftop Soiree Collection (Holiday 2014). And since it does mention Daphne's name and is wonderfully glittery as Daphne's other parties, it fits quite well in this set.

Again, I apologise for the terrible photoshop stitch job on the bottle above :(

2013 - 1st Anniversary - Daphne's Birthday Party - Hannah at Polly Polish confirms that there are definitely "gold, pink, red, blue, green and purple pieces" in this glitter bomb.

Chunky Glitter in Pastel Crelly

As usual, I am super late to the party.

So the beginning... it started, when I first noticed Iris My Case at Femme Fatale Cosmetics. Of course it's sold out.

Swatch NOT by me... by whom, I don't know yet, as of 07/12/2018

Anyway, who's KBShimmer?

They are... a nail polish company founded in 2008 by Christy Rose... so it looks like I have 10 years to play catch up on. They also make and sell body care *gestures vaguely* stuff products. They are located in Indiana, the USA... a whole plane ride away from Australia which always puts a dampener on the idea of buying anything - sometimes *cough* Mattel *cough* and/or usually no fault of the brand, more thanks to ridiculous postage rules ie. in this case, nail polish is classified as a flammable material so there are restrictions to transporting it - but, isn't transport fuel also flammable?

Thanks Google! And Wikipedia... and svgtopng DOT com

I always forget where Indiana is... actually, I always forget where most USA states are located. The internet tells me that it is one of the states surrounding the Great Lakes. Hopefully I'll remember from here on, I guess we'll see.

Ok, anyway... stuff sold out. Alright... I continue with life.

Did you know that NCLA did a nail polish & wraps & lipstick collaboration with Barbie? Well, I do now but I didn't until quite a bit after the release of the collection.

NCLA x Barbie, image credits: internet ie. NOT ME

Who are NCLA? Apparently they're really big with the nail wraps stuff. So, obviously LA stands for Los Angeles, at least that's a location in the USA that I am not completely ignorant about. What does "NC" means? I could see that this company is strongly against animal cruelty (super awesome)... so "No Cruelty" LA? Well, they do make nail decorative stuff, so "Nail Color" LA? Maybe "Nail Care" LA, although it seems like they got into that business part a bit later on the business timeline. Alright, this is bugging me... I need to find out what the "NC" part means. Some moments later, I learn that the sisters who run the company have Vietnamese and Swedish ethnic backgrounds. I had already suspected the Vietnamese part because the younger sister uses a Vietnamese name. Vietnamese + Nails... yeah, go make your Viet Nail jokes... so, I also found out that they have an older brother and another sister, named Elsa, that's pretty Scandinavian hehe. However, I still don't know what the "NC" part of "NCLA" stands for. More searching... I am in a deep rabbit hole of researching by now and I finally find out that NC stands for NAIL COUTURE! Thanks to JPy-LA, a local lifestyle magazine about Kawaii stuff, I assume? I had enough of doing "research" by the time I found that. So, after acquiring a lot of information that is none of my business and we now know that NCLA means Nail Couture Los Angeles! TA DA!

Quoted 2017, screenshot 2018

Now, do they ship internationally? Do they ship the FLAME LIQUID internationally?

Emailed customer service. They said yes, for a flat rate of $9.95. Sweet! So, now we know. Awesome response speed too, kudos to NCLA customer service for that bit.

Now, I wonder if they have stockists in Australia. There is no list of stockists or re-sellers on their website, at least none that I can locate. Somehow, I find out through Google Images (don't ask me details) that a store named Maconii, located in Victoria on this continent, stocks some NCLA items. Unfortunately, they do not have the NCLAxBarbie items... not surprisingly as the NCLAxBarbie only came out mid-November and we obviously live in the Stone Ages here in Australia.

And then I saw Posh and Privileged.

Posh and Privileged by NCLA, LOOK AT IT!!!

It's soooo cute and pretty!!! Oh, wait... I remember that KBShimmer had a bunch of pastel crellies with chunky glitter! Gotta go check those out again!!!

Hey, so what does the "KB" part of KBShimmer stand for?

NOTE: links worked on the day this blog post was written up... who knows if it still will, when and if anyone else ever reads this, oh internet, you are so fickle!

The question now remains, will they be back or won't they?

As the saying goes, the show must go on... but as is essential for all things in life, rest breaks are essential. And even a brilliant show like PSC must take a breather while their fans await, tucked away in a little facebook group*, admiring and chatting about the many treasures that PSC have released over the last SEVEN years!
